Advent – days 18, 19 & 20

I meant to write this blog post earlier today, but the day rather ran away with me. However, I am still managing an ornament a day, hurrah!

On the eighteenth, I got this dark, chocolate-y brown yarn. And tbh I was so pleased! I’ve been wanting to do a little gingerbread man ornament, and though this is darker than real gingerbread men, it’s still a beautiful brown – moist ginger cake brown. Or a burnt gingerbread man! I ‘cheated’ slightly in this one – ie, I used a yarn that wasn’t my day’s yarn. I used two little bits from the day before’s yarn, for the eyes and buttons. The pattern is Anna Tanowska’s Gingerbread Man Christmas Ornament, and it’s quick, simple, and very cute πŸ˜€

On the nineteenth, I got this gorgeous two-toned blue yarn, plus a little sachet of wool-friendly fabric detergent πŸ˜€ I knew at once I wanted to make a snowflake with this yarn. The pattern in fact calls itself a dishcloth, but I don’t think it would make a very good dishcloth! It’s Bernat Studio’s Snowflake Dishcloth, and it turned out to be one of those patterns where it’s very helpful to poke through other people’s notes, on Ravelry, to get pointers and/or corrections! Still, the result is lovely.

Yesterday I got this lovely striped yarn, yellow and a green-y grey. I wanted something simple yesterday, because, like an idiot, I accidentally took my evening medication in the morning. Evening medication that is aimed at helping me sleep. Oops?! Yesterday was a washout day, spent mostly on the sofa under a blanket watching Christmas films. However, I did manage to crochet this ornament, which is Marjolein Flick’s Double Christmas Tree Bauble. I love the way the yarn has pooled in lovely spirals down the bauble, making it look really spectacular.

I am determined to keep up an ornament a day for the last few days before Christmas, even though tomorrow I have to decorate the Christmas cake and there will be, no doubt, a hundred and one things to do over the weekend. Just three more yarn parcels to go, four more ornaments to make and post about. And then Christmas Day! I’ll have so many things to share after Christmas, crocheted gifts that I’ve made over the past few months but had to keep off this blog because they’re gifts for people who read it. Watch this space πŸ˜€
