Wheatfields – progress update #1

Ooooh, I am loving working on this freeform picture. Seriously, seriously loving it.

There’s something so challenging about it – stripping the brushstrokes down into shapes, building the swirls and colours into recognisable representations of Van Gogh’s work – and yet it’s infinitely rewarding, too. Though I sometimes want to tear my hair out (such as when I realised I’d done one section too small and had to cut – yes, cut it out), overall I’m so, so pleased by how it’s coming along.

As I said I would, I started with the bushes down at the bottom right corner and, hiccup over one little section aside, I’m pleased with how it’s turning out.

I’ve got quite far along the bottom, in fact – far enough that I felt I could go no further there at present. So I turned my attention to the bushes in the middle. Middle-ish, anyhow – below those towering cypress trees.

With an added bit of yellow and blue, to make a change from all the green πŸ˜€ I am studiously avoiding those cypress trees, because I seem to remember them being a little tricky, in Starry Night. But I’ll get there.

Meanwhile, having worked my way across from right to left, with these bushes, I have come to the point where I really need to get some actual wheatfield in there.

Which means more yellow! I love green, but after a couple of weeks of working solidly in green, it’s nice to have a change. Lovely shades of yellow to make those lush, ripe wheatfields.

Ignore the ends. Just…ignore the ends.

No, in all seriousness, I’m not ignoring them. I am sewing them in, not as I go but in fits and spurts, often when they start getting in my way! It’s not going to be a total nightmare at the end, anyway. It’s good thinking time, too. There is an awful lot of thinking that goes on when doing something like this πŸ˜€

So, onwards with wheatfields I go. My plan is to keep going with the lower half of the picture for now. The sky, with those gorgeously swirling clouds, is definitely calling to me – but for how I’m happy enough working on the ground. It would definitely be nice to get the wheatfield and cypresses/bushes mostly done before I break out the blues. We’ll see. My concentration isn’t amazing at the moment, and I may get fed up of yellow before I’m done with wheat πŸ˜€
