Jam Jar Candle Cosies

I mentioned a few weeks ago that I’d worked up a quick set of patterns for jam jar candle cosies, while on my quest to ‘use up everything, damn it, no matter how small’. Well, my lovely pattern testers have zipped through the patterns to tidy up all my typos, and now I can share them with you all 🙂

A collection of cosies to fit round jam jars of 190ml (8.5cm high with 6.5cm diameter) – perfect for a votive candle. I wanted to create cosies that would cast really interesting shadows with a lighted candle inside, as well as looking pretty on the outside.

I used Stylecraft Bellissima and Bambino for these cosies (small quantities of Bellissima in Rio Red, Mellow Yellow, Sugar Snap, Ash Rose, Single Cream, and of Bambino in White), because it’s a yarn that has excellent stitch definition and so would make the ‘windows’ really well defined.

However, this is an excellent stash-buster project, and you can use any DK weight yarn you want, with a suitable hook to match gauge. They’re a lovely, quick make – perfect for a last-minute Christmas present.

I’ve also included tips for making the cosies bigger to fit bigger jars, by increasing the base size appropriately and increasing the pattern repeat once you reach the sides.

The pattern is available for free on Ravelry.

Enjoy!

  1. Nice to see your examples because I have been collecting little jars for this purpose but haven’t got around to the crochet yet – too many other demands get in the way. One day, one day …
