It’s finished! It’s done! Complete! Ahhhhh what a wonderful feeling!
I’m so, so pleased with it.
It’s crazy. A collision of colours. Utterly psychedelic, just as I imagined it would be.
I found the perfect buttons in my button box. Six round buttons, each with a different comical owl on. I sewed each one on in a different colour, and made loops on the other side of the cushion cover.
It’s full of lovely little details that you really have to get close to see. Post stitches and surface crochet and crossed stitches and all sorts of things 😀
It’s lush and glorious and I love it so much.
So, some details.
As I said in my very first post on this project, I used Scheepjes Catona, all 109 colours of it. I used a 3mm hook, and obviously I had a tapestry needle for sewing in ends.
All the flowers were made with six petals, so each motif began with either 6sc or 12 dc, in a magic circle. I decided right at the beginning that they would all be six-petalled, simply because it would be easier to join them up if there was consistency in that. I also tried to make every flower different. I am absolutely certain I didn’t entirely succeed on that score, at least in terms of the design of each one – but each flower has different colour combinations, at least!
I joined motifs in a combination of ways, and I wrote up my methods in a previous mini update post. I didn’t sew any of the motifs together, nor did I sew up the sides – it’s all joined in crochet, predominantly slip stitches and single crochet.
I did two rounds of single crochet at the opening, basically to make it even enough to put loops on for fastening the buttons.
And yes, I managed to sew in every last one of those ends.
There is no pattern for any aspect of this. None of the flowers, nor the shaping. It’s all freeform. I just picked up hook and yarn and crocheted. There never has been and never will be a pattern, so don’t ask 😀
I’m so pleased with it, and so proud that I’ve achieved what I set out to do. It’s been a tough year, personally/family-wise, and I’m fairly ill/exhausted most of the time right now, but I have still managed to create something spectacular. It’s a nice feeling!
