As promised, I’m back to give you a good look at the first of the three colourways for The Winding Path.

This colourway is called Moorland Meander. It’s the first colourway I chose, and really the inspiration behind the blanket as a whole. I’d been wanting to use Stylecraft Highland Heathers DK in a blanket for a while, and something about this combination of colours just sang to me. I wanted something rich and autumnal, something that would both show off the cable textures and add to them. Highland Heathers was the perfect yarn for this project, and these colours, to me, a perfect combination. I love the deep green, blue, purple and red all together, and how those colours are lifted up by the warmth of the creamy colour.

I think it’s a beautifully cosy blanket, perfect for snuggling under after a long walk on a cold, frosty day.

For this blanket I used Lichen (5 balls), Marmalade (3 balls), Brose (3 balls), Campbell (3 balls), Thistle (3 balls) and Hawthorn (3 balls). Yes, that’s twenty balls of yarn in total – cables are a yarn eater!

However, an important note for this colourway. For some of the colours (namely Brose, Thistle and Hawthorn), if you match my gauge you will end up with about 10g remaining from the total. I’ve decided against including an extra ball of these colours in the colour pack (on sale 6th Jan at Wool Warehouse, but use your LYS if you can!), because many of you won’t need an extra ball. But it’s something to be aware of, especially if you’re using more yarn generally.

I used a 4.5mm hook for this blanket, which measures 55.5 inches x 69.5 inches (or 133 cm x 177 cm).

The gauge is: 1.6 inches by 4 inches = 6 rows of 20 dc. You should comfortably have 1.6″x4″, with absolutely no need to stretch your piece at all. If you’re too big, go down a hook size; too small, go up a hook size. All gauge details will be in Part 00, the Introduction, which will bew published 6th January.
