Well…I can give some tips, but it was freeform crochet, so there’s nothing written down, and it was a few years ago now 🙂
From memory, I worked the spirals amigurumi-style, with regular increases and no rounds joined. I added some surface crochet as well.
I did the joins in various ways. Occasionally I whipstitched two pieces together, but mostly I tried to crochet them together. Mostly I seem to remember I did this not by joining as you might for a blanket, with wrong sides (or right sides) facing, but by putting the two spirals next to each other, and crocheting from one to the other (eg, six stitches in one and then straight onto the next – or occasionally a few stitches in one, chain a few in between, then a few stitches in the next). It really depended on what shape I was trying to make.
