Who fancies a new pattern to cheer up their Tuesday?

Those of you who follow me on instagram will have seen sneak peeks of this blanket already. I love the designs I normally create, rich and textured, but sometimes you just need something simpler. Something quick, easy, and portable. Thus, this blanket was born.

I call it ‘Spin Me Around’, because of the way the pattern spins out from the centre and because of the yarn I used – Batik Swirl. It’s a swirling and spinning kind of a blanket 🙂

It’s very quick to work up, a simple repeating pattern that increases as you go. You can make it to any size, from a cushion cover right up to a big bedspread: just keep following the repeating pattern.

Details

  • The pattern is written in US terms.
  • My blanket is a comfortable lap blanket size at 44″/122cm.
  • I used a 4.5mm hook and three cakes of Batik Swirl, in the shade Purple Mist.
  • After three rounds, my blanket measures 3”/7.6cm across. However, because this is a repeating pattern, matching gauge is not essential.
  • You’ll need a tapestry needle for sewing in ends.
  • You may also find stitch markers helpful.

I’ve also made my first attempt at a chart, for this blanket, as well as the written instructions. The chart covers the first twelve rounds, to help get you started.

  5. Hi! I’m new here, and still fairly new to crochet, but I love the look of this and wanted to try it. I had no problems until round 10, and now I have started and frogged it at least 6 or 7 times, and I just can’t get it! Is there a way I can contact you to get some more specific help?!   7. I have recently started this pattern. I am very much a beginner, and I love how easy this is. I am having a problem I hope you can help me with. When I get to the part that says “. . .ch 1, skip next stitch. DC in next (how ever many) stitch(es), 2 dc in next stitch, 2 dc in chain 2 space,” I have too many stitches. I don’t end up in the chain 2 space for the last stitches unless I skip two stitches after the chain 1. I’ve been fudging it, but I’m on row 11, and I feel like I’m going to discover at some point that I’ve messed it all up. I would appreciate any tips you can give me.

    1. So the ch1 should be after you’ve worked a dc in the previous round’s ch1 – that’s the first thing to check, that you’re ending each repetition with the right place. You then skip the first dc after the previous round’s ch1, so the ch1 spaces are offset. If that part of the round isn’t right, the increases won’t be right.

      Does that help at all?

  8. I don’t think so. On Row 11, the dc in three stitches, dc in ch 1 space, ch 1 and skip next stitch work out great. When I get to where there are supposed to be seven stitches before the next ch 2 space, there are 7, but there are eight stitches including the ch 2 space. The count only works for me if I dc 6 and then dc 2 in the ch 2 space, instead of dc 5, dc 2 in the next stitch, and dc 2 in the ch 2 space. Working it like the pattern says leaves me one stitch short of the ch 2 space.

  10. I too am having a hard time. my count is correct up through round 11. it goes ok until I get to where it says skip until you have 3 stitches before 2dc, 2dc in sp. I would have to skip 5 st before I have 3 left. this is a bid jump. I am so tired of frogging.
